Vactor Introduces Innovative Water Recycling System for Vactor 2100 Plus Sewer Cleaner

Optional system conserves water, offers productivity gains and cost savings

STREATOR, ILL. (Oct. 5, 2016) – Vactor Manufacturing, the industry leader in sewer and catch basin cleaners, industrial vacuum loaders and vacuum excavators, introduced an exclusive water recycling system available as an option for the Vactor 2100 Plus combination sewer cleaner. The innovative system reuses water already in the sewer to clean sewer lines, providing the potential to eliminate the need for clean water and saving thousands of gallons of clean water during every shift.

“Vactor’s new water recycling system helps municipalities save hundreds of thousands of gallons of fresh water, improve efficiencies, reduce costs and promote sustainability,” said David Brockman, associate product manager at Vactor Manufacturing. “Our customers value doing more with less, as well as being greener, both in terms of saving money and conserving water. This system helps them do both.”

In addition to the clean water saved, Vactor’s water recycling system can increase operator productivity by up to 100 percent, enabling operators to clean twice the number of lines. This productivity gain is the result of eliminating time spent refilling the water tank, including the time spent breaking the job site down and driving to a hydrant or water filling facility to refill the tank.

“This refilling process can occur multiple times during the work day, so the labor time saved with the water recycling system is significant,” Brockman said. “Cleaning the lines becomes more efficient, and cleaner sewer lines reduce the risk of overflows.”

Communities protect people and the environment through maintenance of their sewer systems to prevent overflows, thereby avoiding the potential health risks and financial penalties associated with those overflows. The ability to recycle the water used for sewer cleaning maximizes existing resources and reduces operating costs.

Technology benefits

“At Vactor, we believe technology should be simple and reliable, making the operator’s job easier,” Brockman said.

Vactor’s automated water recycling system is easy to operate. A simple switch on the control panel activates the recycling system and overrides the standard sewer cleaner system.

The five-stage filtration system uniquely combines settling, centrifugal separation and absolute filtration to 100-micron particle sizes, preventing most abrasive solids from entering the jetting system. A monitoring system for the 100-micron filter and an automated filter cleaning system are included. This fine level of filtration ensures the life of the jetting system and enables the operator to run specialized tools, such as root cutters and rotating nozzles. The filter cleaning system allows the machine to operate continuously at full operating flows and pressures throughout the day.

Environmental benefits

In addition to conserving clean water, the water recycling system reduces the miles the Vactor 2100 Plus travels from the job site to a hydrant or water filling facility to refill the water tank. This results in lower fuel consumption and a reduction in engine idling time while refilling the tank.

Improved safety

All components of the water recycling system are located on the rear door of the Vactor 2100 Plus, so there is no need for operators or maintenance technicians to enter the debris tank for cleaning or maintenance. This eliminates specific hazards that put them at risk for injuries and reduces their exposure to sewage.

Reduced operating costs

Indirect costs for traffic control and the risks associated with operating and moving vehicles on job sites are also favorably impacted by Vactor’s water recycling system. The longer the Vactor 2100 Plus sewer cleaner is allowed to stay on the job site, those costs and risks are dramatically reduced as a percentage of the amount of line cleaned.
